Allah accepted Maryam and placed her in Zakariyya’s care. When he visited her prayer chamber, he found provision with her and asked where it came from. Maryam replied that it was from Allah, who provides for whom He wills without measure. At that place Zakariyya prayed for good offspring, recognising Allah’s ability to grant what people cannot produce by themselves.
Although he was old and his wife had been unable to have children, he asked Allah for an heir and prayed that the child would be pleasing to Him. He brought this need to Allah with hope.
Allah gave him good news of a son named Yahya. When Zakariyya wondered how this would happen in old age, he was told that it was easy for Allah, who had created him before.
Zakariyya asked for a sign. He was told that he would not speak to people for three nights while otherwise well; Surah Aal Imran describes three days and communication by gesture. He came out from the prayer chamber and signalled to his people to glorify Allah morning and evening. The glad news led to remembrance and gratitude, not forgetting the One who granted it.
This is an original, simplified retelling of selected Quranic accounts and sahih narrations, not a word-for-word translation or a complete biography. Each section links to its sources. Any tafsir explanation is labelled separately. Where the cited sources give less detail, the account remains shorter. The final takeaway is a learning activity.
