Yaqub

Peace be upon him

1. A father’s guidance about the dream

When Yusuf shared his dream, Yaqub advised him not to tell his brothers and spoke of Allah’s future favour. Later, the brothers asked to take Yusuf with them. Yaqub expressed his concern that a wolf might harm him while they were inattentive. The brothers insisted they would protect him. The advice and concern show his care, while the later deception was their wrongdoing.

2. False blood and patient endurance

The brothers returned with Yusuf’s shirt marked by false blood and claimed a wolf had eaten him. Yaqub recognised that their own desires had led them to something wrong. He chose beautiful patience and sought Allah’s help concerning their story. He did not approve their action or regard the false account as established truth.

3. Another journey and a solemn promise

When supplies were needed, the sons asked to take Yusuf’s brother to Egypt. Yaqub remembered their earlier failure and did not agree lightly. He required a promise by Allah that they would bring him back unless overwhelmed. He advised them about entering through different gates, while acknowledging that no precaution could override Allah’s decree. His trust and his precautions went together.

4. Grief without losing faith

Yaqub grieved deeply over Yusuf's absence, and his eyes became white with sorrow. He turned to Allah with his grief rather than giving up hope in Him.

5. Searching with hope

He told his sons to search for Yusuf and his brother and not lose hope in Allah's mercy. His hope was joined with action: he asked them to go and look.

6. Sight restored and reunion

Yusuf sent his shirt to his father. When it was placed on Yaqub's face, his sight returned. The family later came to Yusuf in Egypt, and the long separation ended in reunion.

7. Teaching his children to worship Allah

In another passage, Yaqub addressed his sons near his death and asked whom they would worship after him. They affirmed worship of the one God, the God of his forefathers Ibrahim, Ismail and Ishaq, and submission to Him. This is a separate Quranic scene showing the faith he wanted his family to preserve.

What can we learn?

Keep hope in Allah during difficult days.

A learning takeaway, not a quotation from the Quran.
All source references

This is an original, simplified retelling of selected Quranic accounts and sahih narrations, not a word-for-word translation or a complete biography. Each section links to its sources. Any tafsir explanation is labelled separately. Where the cited sources give less detail, the account remains shorter. The final takeaway is a learning activity.
