Ibrahim

Peace be upon him

1. Speaking gently to his father

Ibrahim was a truthful prophet. He asked his father why he worshipped things that could neither hear nor see nor benefit him. He offered to guide him with the knowledge he had received. His father responded with threats and demanded that he leave. Ibrahim answered peacefully and left the false worship behind. His invitation was clear, yet his address to his father remained respectful.

2. The idols could not answer

Ibrahim asked his people about the statues to which they were devoted. Their answer was that they had seen their ancestors worshipping them. When the people went away, Ibrahim broke the idols except the largest. When they returned and questioned him, he directed them to ask the idols if they could speak. The people briefly recognised the difficulty in their belief, then fell back into argument.

3. Allah protects him from the fire

Instead of accepting the reminder, his people decided to burn him. Allah commanded the fire to be cool and safe for Ibrahim. Their plan to harm him failed through Allah's protection.

4. Leaving for the sake of Allah

Allah delivered Ibrahim and Lut to a land He had blessed. Ibrahim said that he was going towards his Lord, who would guide him. He prayed for a righteous child, and Allah gave him good news of a forbearing son. These passages show his trust after the opposition he faced; they do not give every stop or date of his travels.

5. The great test with his son

When his son was old enough to work with him, Ibrahim told him about a dream of sacrificing him. The son agreed to obey Allah and hoped to remain patient. Both submitted. Allah then called to Ibrahim that he had fulfilled the vision and provided a great sacrifice in place of the son. The son was not killed. These verses do not name the son, so this account does not present a name as though it were stated in the passage.

6. Prayer for the valley

Ibrahim prayed for the town to be safe and for protection from idol worship. He described settling some of his descendants in an uncultivated valley near Allah’s Sacred House, so they could establish prayer. He asked for people’s hearts to incline towards them and for provision, so they could be grateful. His prayer joined worship, security and daily needs.

7. Building the Kaabah with Ismail

In another Quranic account, Ibrahim and Ismail raised the foundations of the Kaabah. While working, they asked Allah to accept their service. They also prayed for submission to Allah for themselves and their descendants.

8. Guests and glad news

Angels came to Ibrahim as guests. He welcomed them and brought a roasted calf, then felt concern when they did not eat. They reassured him and said they had been sent concerning Lut’s people. They also brought glad news of Ishaq and, after Ishaq, Yaqub. The surprise at having a child in old age was answered by the reminder of Allah’s mercy, blessing and command.

What can we learn?

Worship Allah alone and ask Him to accept your good efforts.

A learning takeaway, not a quotation from the Quran.
All source references

This is an original, simplified retelling of selected Quranic accounts and sahih narrations, not a word-for-word translation or a complete biography. Each section links to its sources. Any tafsir explanation is labelled separately. Where the cited sources give less detail, the account remains shorter. The final takeaway is a learning activity.
