Harun

Peace be upon him

1. Musa asks for his brother’s help

Musa asked Allah to appoint his brother Harun as a helper. He wanted his brother to strengthen him and share the task, so they could remember and glorify Allah together.

References: Quran 20:29-35

2. Two messengers before Pharaoh

Allah accepted Musa’s request and promised to strengthen him through Harun. They were sent together with the signs. Allah told them not to be afraid, for He heard and saw, and instructed gentle speech. They were to ask Pharaoh to release the Children of Israel and not torment them. Harun’s help was part of this mission, not a separate message that differed from Musa’s.

3. Responsibility while Musa is away

Musa left Harun in charge of his people while he went for the appointed meeting with his Lord. He told Harun to act for reform and not follow the way of those who caused corruption. This explains Harun’s responsibility when the people later fell into calf worship. The appointment was a trust to guide the community.

References: Quran 7:142

4. Warning against the calf

Harun told the people that the calf was a test, that their Lord was the Most Merciful, and that they should obey him. They refused to stop until Musa came back. Harun was not teaching them calf worship. He had already given the warning that the Quran records, even though the people did not obey it.

References: Quran 20:90-91

5. Explaining what had happened

When Musa returned, Harun explained that the people had overpowered him and nearly killed him. He also feared causing division among the Children of Israel. Musa asked Allah to forgive him and his brother and admit them to His mercy. The account distinguishes the people’s refusal from Harun’s warning and his difficult responsibility.

This is an original, simplified retelling of selected Quranic accounts and sahih narrations, not a word-for-word translation or a complete biography. Each section links to its sources. Any tafsir explanation is labelled separately. Where the cited sources give less detail, the account remains shorter. The final takeaway is a learning activity.
