Allah told the angels that He would place a successor on earth. They asked about corruption and bloodshed, and Allah told them that He knows what they do not know. Allah knows everything. Allah taught Adam the names of things. When the angels were asked about them, they acknowledged that their knowledge was only what Allah had taught them. Adam then told them the names.
Allah commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam. They obeyed, but Iblis refused in pride. In another passage, Iblis argued that he was better because he had been made from fire and Adam from clay. His refusal was arrogance and disobedience. He was not an angel; the Quran identifies him as one of the jinn.
Allah taught Adam the names of things. Adam and his wife lived in Paradise, where they could enjoy its food. Allah told them not to approach one particular tree.
Satan whispered to Adam and his wife. He claimed that the forbidden tree would give them a lasting life or make them angels, and swore that he was a sincere adviser. Allah had already warned Adam that Satan was an enemy. The deception was presented as helpful advice, but it led them away from the warning they had been given.
Satan deceived them, and they ate from the tree despite the warning. This was the lapse in this account. When they realised what had happened, they asked their Lord for forgiveness and mercy. The Quran does not name the fruit.
Allah accepted Adam’s repentance and chose and guided him. Adam and his wife were sent down to earth. Allah promised guidance: those who follow it need not fear or grieve in the way described in these verses. Their life on earth was not a reason to lose hope. Repentance, Allah’s mercy and following guidance remain central to the account.
This is an original, simplified retelling of selected Quranic accounts and sahih narrations, not a word-for-word translation or a complete biography. Each section links to its sources. Any tafsir explanation is labelled separately. Where the cited sources give less detail, the account remains shorter. The final takeaway is a learning activity.
